The Summer season is plentiful in exciting fruit varieties. Here is a selection of our favourites:
- Cherries
A great alternative to berries (Strawberries, Raspberries and Blueberries), cherry season is upon us. We favour the larger ones which tend to be sweeter and more satisfying to eat. In addition to their well-known antioxidant properties, research has also found that cherries are beneficial in improving sleep – both in quality and duration
- Flat Peaches
In addition to Peaches and Nectarines, we also love Flat Peaches. The Flat Peach is a squashed-looking Peach (also known as a Donut Peach) and they are naturally extremely sweet, so they ripen and soften much faster than their round cousins. They are high in antioxidant Vitamin C, which helps the body to develop resistance against infectious agents and harmful free radicals
- Plums
Over 2,000 varieties of plums exist and several are available in the UK, including Black Diamond, Fortuna, Hiromi Red, Red Beauty and Santa Rosa. According to the Produce for Better Health Foundation, dark plums may help preserve memory function
