Planting Fruit Trees campaign update: January to March 2016
Saving Choma Hill
- Twenty years ago Choma Hill used to have plenty of trees and it was the main source of water for Mzuzu, the capital of North Malawi
-
In 2003 Mzuzu introduced a charcoal business which has resulted in devastating deforestation: one big 50 year old tree can produce only 3 bags of charcoal
-
Ripple Africa has already had initial meetings with the chiefs and communities to stop the charcoal business whilst also helping farmers grow Pine and Eucalyptus as an alternate source of fuel for cooking
