Planting Fruit Trees campaign update: October to December 2014
Total trees planted so far: 963,925
Focus: Local farmer has planted over 3,000 trees
- Catherine, our tree planting project manager, has been working with householders, community tree clubs and individual farmers
- One farmer, Fwiyoulemu, who lives in a hilly area of Nkhata Bay District was so concerned about the deforestation in his area that he decided to develop his own tree nursery and plant trees on his land where his crops are failing through soil erosion
- In his well organised tree nursery he has planted over 3,000 trees. Mainly trees for firewood but also a large number of guava trees, so he can sell the fruit
